Shadows in the Machine

This story is about a girl named Jenny. She is on a phone call with her dad.

Jenny: "Daddy, when are you coming back? I haven't seen you for 6 months!!"

Dad: "I'm not coming back for 5 more months."

Jenny: "But Daddy, next month is my concert! You promised that you would go!!!"

Dad: "I'm sorry, but it is business.

Jenny hanged up. She was unhappy for several reasons. She needed her father badly.

• Her father was a fighter pilot in the US Air force
• Her mother had gotten a young immature boyfriend
• Her brother didn't care about her and only uses her
• She only got to see her father for two months a year
• Her father couldn't manage to see her at the violin concert

Jenny cries. "Mom!! Don't forget. Next month is my concert. You have to drive me there." "I also need new clothes."

Her mother only says this.

"Get a ride and buy something with your own money. I'm busy."

"You have all the time in your life and all you do is stay home. What a stepmother!" Jenny thought, as she wanted to see her father right this moment. She asked her brother to play cards, but he ignored her completely. Her only family was her Shiba Inu, Puff, and her father. She hugged Puff, and was thinking about what would happen if her dad knew what was happening in the house. "Divorce" she thought. "I would love one. "Fiona" doesn't care." "All she wants is daddy's money. Her mother would never go to her concerts, or be proud of her. Her mother would never shop for her, or get her anything. Life was being an unloved cat for Jenny. She was so miserable. She went to sleep and waited for what would happen on the next day.

Jenny's alarm rang. It was time to go to school. Her mother was asleep. Her brother was also unloved, but he didn't care. He woke up with Jenny. Jenny smiled and in her best voice, said "Good morning." He didn't answer back. He never did. Somehow, she couldn't get any of her family to love her the way they should. "All except daddy." Jenny whispered to herself. She had to walk to school, which was more than 5 miles away. Her sibling went to school 2 times closer than Jenny's, and they got to go on the bus. Her friend, Britney was the only one who knew how she felt. "Its okay, Jen. I know how you feel." Britney was one of the closest friends to Jenny. Britney was a straight-A student in everything. Her favorite subject in middle school was Science. Britney had been through what Jenny had been through so far, but it was her father that didn't care. Britney knew that being unloved by a mother was worse.

For science, it was free time. They got to do everything they wanted in that time, as long as it was related to science. Britney loved making ideas. She made more than 2 really good ideas in that class. Jenny was an A-minus student, and she didn't really like science that much. After science was over, it was a 30-minute break. Jenny had an idea.

"Hey, Britney, can I come over tonight? I have an idea."

"Is it related to science?" Britney asked.

Jenny said, "It sure is."

Jenny stayed for the night at Britney's house. She told Britney the idea.

"Look, I want to make a machine that can transport you anywhere in a matter of seconds."

Britney laughed. "What? That is impossible! In a matter of seconds?"

"No, it is possible."

"We will try." said Britney, in a solemn voice,

Jenny called her mother to see if it was okay if she could stay at Britney's house for a while. She heard a bad word and Jenny hanged up.

Tomorrow was a Saturday, so Jenny and Britney decided to make a plan of the machine and how they would make it.

"Can I go to my house and bring Puff?" asked Jenny.

"Sure you can." answered Ms. Griffith, Britney's mother.

She crept into the house, took Puff and ran back to Ms. Griffith.

Britney smiled "Look, I finished the plan. But the thing is, it might take hours to let you actually appear at the place. You are going to have to travel in corridors, and see shadows that you don't want to see."

"Is there no other way?" Jen asked.

She said no.

"Lets get started."

They bought 55555volt batteries that can last a lifetime, and found a lot of metal in the broken car junk place. Katie, Britney's sister, offered help. Katie bought the supplies, like the infinity inch wire (the very long wire) so that the machine could travel in the corridors. Katie helped by searching all the buttons to see if the machine will transport anybody to the right place. Katie asked why they were making the machine.

"Its because I want to talk and see my father.Katie frowned. "Can I come too?" she asked. Jenny smiled and laughed, "Of course."

Finally, they finished the machine and tried sending a cat outside the streets of Manhattan. Fortunately, it worked. "Who will go first?" asked Britney. Jenny offered. Katie asked where she wanted to appear. "Umm........... in my father's tent." "I'll come too!" cried Katie" That is approximately 426432456 miles across from here to Iraq. Buckle your seat belts!!! And that was the start of their adventure.

"Where do you think we are right now?" Katie inquired.

"In the corridors, of course" Jenny stated flatly.

"No, I mean, where in the world are we now?"

"In the corridors, for goodness sakes."

"Forget it." Katie said.

They talked and talked for hours. Finally..............

"Hey, I'm disappearing!"

"Me too!!!"

They finally arrived to a tent and looked suspiciously around. No one was there.

But they heard something outside. "Attend hut!!"

"They must be training." whispered Katie.

Suddenly, the tent door opened. Someone was in a grey training suit. It was dad. He looked upon them in amazement, and bumped his head on the wall a few times. But the image was clear that they were real. He hugged his daughter and Katie as well. He demanded, "What, under the eyes of God, are you doing here?" Katie and Jenny explained everything, including what was going around the house. "I see." "Come back Daddy, come back!" they chanted. But he said to come tomorrow. To have fun, Katie and Jenny went all around the world, including Istanbul, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, and many more places. They met a lot of people and made a lot of friends. After that, they traveled back to Manhattan, safe and sound. "Where should we hide this thing?" Britney asked. "The basement." Blurted out Katie. They thought this was a good idea. Unfortunately, the Griffith family had an elder brother who was mean. He took it out and sold it to a man for 1111 bucks. "Thanks, man.!!" That day, the group never found the machine and thought hopelessly. The house was full of smoke because all the darting, dashing, gliding, sliding, and bolting for the finding of the machine. They couldn't find it. Ten minutes later, World War 4 began. It only was for 2 hours. Then they understood that John Griffith took the machine and sold it. The group put John in jail for stealing valuable property, because that was how WW 4 started. Still, they couldn't find the machine. Catherine found out that the machine saved some lives because some people had emergencies and the machine transported them to the hospital. When they heard this, they gave the machine to the hospital.

That day, they congratulated themselves for making such a machine. Cathy and Jenny had visited a ton of times to their father, and finally convinced him to come back.

"Daddy, get rid of Fiona and her boyfriend and our brother." Remarked both of them.

So they did, and they lived a happy life.
